The gilded cage it beckons me

And drags my soul in deep

All hope of rescue fleeing fast

The flat hum of the car engine matched the deadness inside Mira as she watched the miles flow past. Keeping her head to the window she refused to look at Rafe. He sat there next to her with a smug smile on his face, triumphant in his re-possession of her. She shook her head in wonder. It had taken just 3 minutes for her whole life to be turned on it s head again.

She tried desperately not to think too much about what she had just lost in that split second. Her choice had been to go with Rafe, keeping Dee and Ryder safe and out of the equation, or try to run. She could not have run back into the house, not with Griff waiting for her in the bathroom upstairs. She almost laughed out loud and the look on her face must have worried Rafe because he grabbed her hand and squeezed it in an affectionate way, concern on his face. He was being far too nice, she thought, and dreaded when they finally got back to his home.
